Officials from the Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) and the County Assemblies Sports Association (CASA) are in Kampala, Uganda, to coordinate the upcoming East African Local Authorities Cultural Association (EALASCA) Games.
The event is scheduled to take place from February 23 to 28, 2025, at the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).
The games will feature a wide array of competitions, including football, netball, volleyball, basketball, handball, table tennis, badminton, tug of war, cultural dances, and choir performances. The event seeks to celebrate East Africa’s diverse cultural heritage while fostering athletic excellence.
During the inaugural planning meeting, Kenyan officials secured critical leadership roles within the organizing committees. KICOSCA Secretary General Kimutai Sitinei was appointed EALASCA Treasurer, Fred Onundu became the Technical Committee Chairman, and Duncan “Sugar Ray” Kuria assumed the role of EALASCA Publicity Chairman. Additionally, Nairobi County Assembly Majority Leader Hon. Peter Imwatok was elected Vice Chairman of EALASCA.
“Kampala is ‘home away from home’ for Kenyans. Sports unite us, fostering cultural exchange and strengthening the social fabric essential for political unity,” Hon. Imwatok remarked.
KCCA Executive Director and games patron Frank Rusa expressed enthusiasm about hosting the tournament, emphasizing its role in strengthening regional ties. “I commend East African leaders for fostering interaction through sports. Our president [Yoweri Museveni] is passionate about regional integration, which enhances our collective strength. Building social relationships now will ease future political integration,” he stated.
The EALASCA Games will unite participants from Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, and other East African nations. The event highlights the power of sports and culture in promoting unity and cooperation across the region.
This marks the third time Kampala will host the EALASCA Games, reinforcing its status as a premier venue for regional sporting and cultural events.
