The Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) has warned players switching clubs sternly, indicating they will only be permitted to play once all transfer procedures are completed.

In a list of 41 players who have changed teams ahead of the new season, Joseph Amoko, KBF’s competitions secretary, stated that the process would be handled differently this time.

Of these 41 players, 20 are joining new Premier League clubs. “The rules are apparent when acquiring a player. Those moving must first obtain clearances from their previous teams, after which the remaining formalities will be completed,” he emphasized.

Amoko also revealed that the transfer fees are set at 10,000 Kenyan Shillings (Ksh) for Premier League sides and Ksh 8,000 for Lower Division teams. “Players must provide proof of payment, which also includes a Ksh 700 fee for the player’s license, which should be ready within seven days,” added Amoko.

Nairobi City Thunder has significantly strengthened its squad with high-calibre players and appears to be the team to beat in this year’s title race.

Thunder has convincingly won its first three matches and has signed national team players Ken Wachira from Dynamo, Burundi, Fidel Okoth from Oman, and several others from Equity Bank and Umoja.

Defending champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) have also secured the services of three players from Kenyatta University, including top scorer Dolph Otieno. Equity Bank Dumas has acquired David Odongo from UoN Terrorists and Yon Wanambiro from the Lower Division side Blazers.

In the women’s category, Ivy Opicho, a national team forward who joined Equity Bank Hawks from Strathmore University Swords, is one of the notable transfers. Other players who have joined Equity Bank include Maureen Nyanganyi from Zetech Sparks, Beryl Milungo from KPA, and Shalom Mwendwa from UoN Dynamites.
