The Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) has announced a hiatus for the Kenya National Basketball League after this weekend’s fixtures.
In a statement, Joseph Amoko, the competitions secretary of KBF, extended festive wishes to the teams and revealed that the league will resume on January 27.
Nairobi City Thunder strengthened their pursuit of their first national title, concluding their fixtures with an unbeaten record after a convincing 66-42 victory over Ulinzi Warriors at Nyayo Stadium gymnasium on Tuesday.
Thunder dominated from the start, securing a commanding 19-5 lead in the opening quarter. Griffin Ligare, with a three-pointer, initiated their scoring spree, including four consecutive treys, with Faheem Juma contributing three.
Despite a solid performance from Ulinzi Warriors in the subsequent quarters, Thunder maintained their lead throughout the game. With an unblemished record, Thunder tops the table with 22 points from 11 matches, while Ulinzi Warriors hold the second position with 17 points from 10 games. Equity Bank Dumas secured the third spot with 15 points from nine games.
Defending champions Kenya Ports Authority occupy the sixth position, accumulating 13 points from six wins out of seven ties.
Thunder continued to dominate, extending their lead to 35-17 at halftime and maintaining their advantage in the second half.
Thunder secured the victory with a final score of 66-42. Garang Diing posted 14 points, Faheem Juma contributed 13, and Ariel Okal added 11 for Thunder.
In other league actions, Strathmore University Blades defeated Blazes 64-46, Snipers emerged victorious over National Bank of Kenya Phoenix with a score of 64-46.
In the women’s category, Safe Spaces faced a close defeat, going down 54-50 against Butere Girls. The league will now take a break, resuming activities on January 27.
