KCB’s women’s volleyball team is set to face off against the seasoned Kenya Prisons squad this Friday, aiming for back-to-back victories in the Kenya Volleyball Federation National Women’s League championship in a highly anticipated showdown.

The match, which is the culmination of this season’s playoffs, will take place at the Kasarani Indoor Arena, where KCB will strive to defend their title, secured last year after a long 15-year hiatus.

Japheth Munala, the head coach of KCB, emphasized the importance of diligence and focus during their last practice at Kasarani Stadium. “The upcoming final is against a formidable opponent. It’s crucial that we maintain our intensity in service, defense, and attack to emerge victorious,” Munala stated.

KCB’s journey to the final was marked by a series of impressive performances, including a decisive 3-1 win over Kenya Army in the quarterfinals’ second leg, following a dominant 3-0 sweep in the first leg. The semi-finals saw them edge out DCI with a narrow 3-2 victory in the first leg, and a convincing 3-0 win in the second leg, showcasing their strength and securing their place in the final.

Despite facing injury challenges, with the team captain nursing a swollen knee and other key players recovering, Munala remains confident. “Injuries have been a setback, but we’re hopeful for a full squad on match day. Our determination is unwavering, and we’re poised to retain our championship title,” he added.

The finals will see KCB compete against Kenya Prisons in two legs, with the first match scheduled for Friday at 2 pm, followed by the second leg at the same time on Saturday, both hosted at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.

On the men’s side, GSU is gearing up to reclaim their lost glory against the reigning champions, Kenya Prisons. The GSU team, which holds a record number of wins, advanced to the final after defeating KDF in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Kenya Prisons secured their spot in a nail-biting tie-breaker against KPA, setting the stage for an intense final clash.
