KCB Bank Kenya has taken the initiative to spearhead a tree-planting exercise alongside the KCB racing team drivers at Naivasha Boys Boarding Primary Schoo in anticipation of the approaching 2023 WRC Safari Rally.

The objective is to contribute to environmental preservation. Renowned motorsport personality Nikhil Sachania, along with navigators Absalom Aswani, Deep Patel, and Tauseef Khan, joined forces with the KCB team, led by Judith Sidi, the Head of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs at KCB Bank, to plant 500 trees within the school compound.

This remarkable endeavour holds immense significance as it aligns with the Government of Kenya’s ambitious goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032.

Demonstrating unwavering dedication to the cause, KCB Bank has already planted over 160,000 trees in 943 schools, further solidifying its commitment to sustainable practices.

Speaking during the tree planting exercise in Naivasha, Judith Sidi emphasized:

“Our environment is facing alarming levels of degradation due to deforestation, pollution, and climate change. Each of us must take responsibility and decisive action to address these challenges. We recognize the pollution effects associated with the rally and therefore must intensify our efforts to mitigate them before, during, and after the Safari. This is in line with our adopted SDG 13 – Climate Action.”

The three drivers, Evans Kavisi, Nikhil Sachania, and Karan Patel, will proudly represent Kenya in this year’s edition of the WRC Safari Rally in Naivasha, scheduled for June 22 to 25.

KCB Bank recently announced a sponsorship of Sh150 million in support of the safari rally and the three drivers forming the KCB racing team.

The entry list for this legendary gravel event, renowned as the toughest fixture on the WRC calendar, includes 10 top-level Rally1 cars, 11 WRC2 runners, and a five-strong WRC3 line-up.

Kalle Rovanperä and Sébastien Ogier, winners of the previous two editions, will both be driving Toyota GR Yaris cars, alongside Elfyn Evans and Takamoto Katsuta, the Japanese star who has secured two podium finishes in Kenya.

By actively engaging students and rallying enthusiasts in these exciting initiatives, KCB aims to ignite a sense of eco-consciousness in the hearts of the next generation. With a target of planting 1.2 million trees by 2028, KCB remains steadfast in its pursuit of sustainability.
