Following a narrow 10-14 defeat to Kabras Sugar in the final game of the regular fixtures, KCB head coach Curtis Olago is determined to redeem his team’s performance in the upcoming Kenya Cup semifinals.

Looking ahead to the semis, Olago emphasized the need for improvement in certain areas. “Our attention now shifts to the semifinals. We need to correct a few mistakes,” he stated.

Despite the loss, Olago praised his team’s effort, particularly highlighting the contributions of utility back Darwin Mukidza. “There are a lot of positives to pick from this match. The boys played well, especially our props and utility back Darwin, whose experience brought stability to the team,” Olago remarked.

In the match against Kabras Sugar, KCB took an early lead with a fast try from Mukidza, converted by Trevor Odawa, giving them a 7-0 advantage. However, Kabras responded swiftly with a try from captain George Nyambua, narrowing the deficit to 7-5.

The game intensified with both teams displaying physicality and tactical prowess. KCB suffered a setback when Festus Shiasi received a yellow card, allowing Kabras to secure a penalty and take an 8-7 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Kabras extended their lead with two successful penalty conversions by Dukisa. Despite a late surge from KCB, highlighted by Mukidza’s penalty, they fell short as time expired. However, KCB’s performance denied Kabras a bonus point.

In other Kenya Cup matches, Kisumu secured their status with a 23-17 win over Strathmore Leos, while Menengai Oilers condemned Catholic Monks to relegation with a 34-23 victory.

Nakuru claimed a dramatic 31-20 win over Mwamba, and Kenyatta University Blak Blad’s playoff hopes were boosted with a 28-0 walkover against Homeboyz. They now need to avoid defeat against Kisumu to secure the final playoff slot.
