Kenya Premier League outfit KCB FC is gearing up to clash with Michael Olunga Foundation (MOFA) in the round of 32 Mozzart Cup this upcoming weekend at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay County.

The bankers are eager to reverse their recent fortunes, having faced a challenging streak of matches. Currently positioned tenth in the premier league, with 29 points from 22 matches, the Bernard Mwalala-led squad is eyeing a resurgence in form.

Addressing the media during a training session at KCB Leadership Centre in Karen, head coach Bernard Mwalala emphasized the importance of cohesion among new recruits and existing squad members to secure victories.

“We are undergoing a transitional phase with the arrival of new players. It’s crucial for them to adapt swiftly and integrate seamlessly for us to clinch victories. Our recent winless streak in the premier league, spanning five matches, is unacceptable for a club of our stature. I anticipate a turnaround this weekend against MOFA, which we can build on,” remarked Mwalala.

The return of striker Derrick Otanga from injury and wingback Kevin Okumu is a boost for KCB, although their participation in the upcoming fixture remains uncertain.

Newcomer goalkeeper Faruk Shikhalo, recently acquired from Kakamega Homeboyz, made his debut in the previous match against Tusker FC and is poised to continue featuring. Additionally, striker Philemon Nyakwakwa, signed from Mara Sugar, has already made two appearances for the bankers.

Midfielder Dismas Ongocho is yet to secure a starting spot, having only made a substitute appearance against Kakamega Homeboyz. However, Collins Neto is expected to lead the attacking line for KCB in the forthcoming fixture.

Looking ahead, KCB will host newcomers Murang’a SEAL on March 3 in Kenya Premier League action, intensifying the title race.
