Following a brief break Kenya Cup action returns this weekend, with KCB RFC set to face off against fourth-placed Kenya Harlequin at the KCB Sports Club in Ruaraka.

Assistant head coach Andrew Amonde expresses confidence in his team’s preparedness for the upcoming challenge.

Reflecting on the season thus far, Amonde commends his players for their performance, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the momentum that has propelled them forward. He stresses the need for the team to remain focused on their goals and to continue striving for excellence collectively.

“Facing Kenya Harlequin presents a new challenge for some of our players, but our primary objective remains unchanged. We aim to uphold the standards we’ve set for ourselves, to remain mentally strong, and to execute our game plan effectively,” says Amonde.

Having observed Kenya Harlequin’s gameplay in previous matches, Amonde believes his team is well-prepared to capitalize on their strengths while minimizing their opponent’s opportunities.

“Our recent victories have boosted morale within the team. Every match is an opportunity for growth, and I’m confident that our players are prepared to face Kenya Harlequin head-on this weekend,” Amonde adds.

The return of seasoned players such as Bob Muhati, Andy Cole Omollo, Wilhite Mususi, captain Griffin Musila, and Festus Shiasi is expected to bolster KCB’s lineup. Amonde expresses optimism about their contributions to the team’s performance.

“With the return of key players, particularly Darwin, we anticipate a strong showing from our squad. Defeating Kenya Harlequin would be a significant achievement, considering their formidable lineup. We’re focused on building on our strengths and delivering a memorable performance,” Amonde notes.

Lionel Ajeleti, representing KCB, acknowledges the challenge posed by Kenya Harlequin but asserts his team’s readiness to compete at the highest level.

“While we anticipate a tough match against Kenya Harlequin, we’re fully prepared to meet the challenge. Our preparation has been thorough, addressing both our weaknesses and strengths. Our aim is to assert control early in the game and dictate the tempo,” says Ajeleti.

Following this weekend’s fixture, KCB will face formidable opponents in Menengai Oilers and Kabras Sugar in their remaining Kenya Cup matches. Currently occupying the second spot on the league table with 39 points, KCB trails behind league leaders Kabras Sugar by a narrow margin of one point.
