The KCB women’s volleyball team successfully defended their title in the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) 2023/2024 season, winning the championship for the second year in a row.

The final match of the series, held at the Kasarani Indoor Arena, saw KCB overpower Kenya Prisons with a straight-sets win (25-22, 25-17, 25-21). The team’s consistent performance throughout the finals was evident as they concluded the series with a 2-1 aggregate victory (3-0, 3-0, 0-3).

Japheth Munala, the head coach of KCB, shared his elation over the team’s achievement, citing the rigorous competition faced from teams like DCI, Kenya Army, and Kenya Prisons. He commended his team’s resilience in overcoming these challenges to retain the championship.

Juliana Namutira, KCB’s outside hitter, was recognized as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for her outstanding contribution to the team’s success, particularly in the match against Kenya Prisons. Coach Munala acknowledged her talent and foresaw her continued improvement.

On the other side, Josp Baraza, the head coach of Kenya Prisons, acknowledged his team’s valiant effort despite the loss. He attributed the defeat to lapses in reception, service, and blocking, which he plans to address in preparation for the next season.

Baraza also proposed a change in the championship format to a single-leg final, which he believes would make for a more thrilling and definitive end to the season.

This victory cements KCB’s status as the leading force in Kenyan women’s volleyball, raising the bar for their competitors in future seasons.
