KCB RFC Clinches Fifth Dala 7s Title, Defeats Kabras in Cup Final
KCB RFC has made a strong start in the National Sevens circuit by securing their fifth Dala 7s title. They avenged their previous loss to rivals Kabras with a 17-5 victory in the cup final.
Kabras began the game strongly, with Barry Robinson scoring an early try. However, KCB quickly responded with Edmund Anya converting to take a 7-5 lead.
The two teams engaged in a fast-paced exchange of possession until Jacob Ojee capitalized on a loose ball from Kabras and scored a try. Vincent Onyala, who displayed outstanding leadership skills, sealed the win for KCB with the final shot.
Coach Andrew Amonde praised his team for their hard work and credited the sponsors. He also commended the technical bench and the new players who embraced the team’s system.
In the bronze final, Strathmore Leos defeated Kenya Harlequins 24-19, while Mwamba RFC secured a 12-10 victory over Menengai Oilers to finish fifth.
Nondies, the newly promoted team, started the campaign positively by winning the challenge trophy with a 19-12 victory over hosts Kisumu RFC.
KCB received prize money of Ksh100,000, Kabras was awarded Ksh50,000 as runners-up, and Strathmore Leos took home Ksh25,000 for finishing third. Kabarak University, the Division 2 champions, also received a prize of Ksh50,000.
Amon Wamalwa was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Brunson Madigu emerged as the top scorer, and Fiden Tony of Nondies finished as the highest point scorer with 47 points.
The next leg of the National Sevens Circuit will take place in Mombasa for the Driftwood 7s, followed by the Prinsloo 7s in Nakuru.
