KCB Sinks Kenya Pipeline to Clinch Eldoret City Championship

KCB Women’s volleyball team secured victory by defeating arch-rivals Kenya Pipeline 3-1 to claim the Eldoret City Volleyball Championship at the Eldoret National Polytechnic on Sunday.

The bankers dominated the opening set with a score of 25-17, but Kenya Pipeline leveled the match by winning the second set 25-22.

However, KCB regained control, securing crucial victories in the third and fourth sets with scores of 25-23 and 26-24, ultimately sealing a 3-1 triumph. Coach Japheth Munala expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance and praised their valiant effort.

In the highly contested semi-final against Post Bank, KCB emerged victorious with a 3-1 scoreline. They claimed the first set 25-18, suffered a setback in the second set with a score of 23-25, and then bounced back to secure the subsequent sets 25-17 and 25-21.

Youngster Pauline Chemutai, recently recruited from Kwanthanze Secondary School, was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament, while Malkia Striker’s Esther Mutinda earned the Best Setter of the Tournament award.

In the group stage’s final match, KCB faced a tough challenge from Kenya Pipeline, ultimately triumphing 3-2. After Kenya Pipeline won the first set 25-20, KCB responded by claiming the next two sets with identical scores of 25-23.

KCB secured victory by dominating the decider with a 15-7 score regardless of Kenya Pipeline winning the fourth set 25-19. Captain Edith Wisa commended the young players, including Pauline Jemutai, Faith Cherotich, and Sheila Wabwile, for their impressive performance against top teams in the competition.

KCB is set to resume action on January 8, 2024, in the third round of the Kenya Volleyball Federation League.
