Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) triumphed with a commanding 3-1 sets victory over Kenya Army as the Kenya Volleyball Federation League resumed after a break at Nyayo National Stadium Gymnasium.

KDF set the tempo by narrowly clinching the first set 25-23, followed by an impressive second set win of 25-18, leaving the army men stunned. However, Kenya Army fought back in the third set, claiming a hard-fought 25-22 win. They continued their momentum in the fourth set, triumphing again with a scoreline of 25-22.

This triumph marked KDF’s ninth win of the season out of 11 matches, having lost only to former champions Kenya Prisons and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).

Elisha Aliwa, the head coach, praised his team’s performance and expressed confidence in securing a playoff spot.

“It was a tough match, considering it was a derby. We are delighted to win 3-1, which is an improvement from last season’s 3-2 victory. To secure a spot in the playoffs, we need to win all our remaining matches,” stated Aliwa.

With seven teams vying for the top four slots, Aliwa emphasized the importance of maintaining their winning streak and urged his players to remain focused. The league’s high level of competition necessitates consistent victories to secure a playoff spot.

Aliwa also stressed the need for improved mental strength among the players, aiming to finish matches within the first three sets.

Having been forced to play fourth sets multiple times this season, developing their resilience will be crucial during tight moments.

KDF currently occupies the second position in the league standings with 27 points, on par with Kenya Prisons, although the former champions boast a superior set difference.

In another thrilling encounter at the same venue, Equity Bank shocked Administration Police with a 3-1 victory (25-18, 25-15, 22-25, 25-22), solidifying their fourth place on the league table.

Prisons teams had their games rescheduled due to their participation in the Prisons Championship at Kasarani Stadium.

The league action will continue during the weekend, with KDF set to face AP Kenya, while Equity Bank will face a formidable challenge against reigning champions GSU.
