Manchester City has successfully secured a two-year contract extension with Australian defender Alanna Kennedy, ensuring her presence at the club until 2025.
Kennedy recently announced on Instagram that she would not be participating for City this season due to an injury.
Having joined City in 2021, Kennedy has already made her mark by winning the League Cup last season and reaching the 2022 FA Cup final. The 28-year-old expressed her delight with the contract extension, stating, “I’m really happy to be staying here at City – I’ve loved my time here so far.
I feel like I still have a lot more to give on a personal level and for the team, so I’m looking forward to continuing our success here.”
Since her arrival from Women’s Super League competitor Tottenham in 2021, Kennedy has made 29 appearances for City. However, this season she has faced challenges with a calf problem, limiting her to just seven games.
As a result, she made the decision through social media to sit out City’s final two WSL matches as the team strives to secure a top-three finish and qualify for the Champions League.
Kennedy’s focus now turns to the upcoming World Cup, set to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand this summer. With 108 appearances for the Matildas, she will be eager to regain full fitness in time for the prestigious tournament.
The contract extension marks an exciting chapter for Kennedy and Manchester City as they look to build upon their recent successes and continue to make their mark in women’s football.
