Kenya’s Kabaddi team has successfully secured a spot in the semi-finals of the fourth Bangabandhu Kabaddi Cup 2024, held in Mirpur, Bangladesh.
The team triumphed over Thailand with a nail-biting score of 33-32 at the Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium. With this victory, Kenya continues its impressive undefeated streak in the tournament, having been the runner-up in the previous two editions.
The team’s next challenge is against Uganda in their final Group B match on Saturday. A win is crucial for Kenya to top their group and avoid a semi-final clash with the host nation, Bangladesh, who have been the champions for three consecutive years and currently lead Group A with eight points.
Kenya’s group stage journey saw them outplay Sri Lanka, Japan, and Iraq with convincing victories. Their strategic dominance was evident as they led the first half against Thailand 20-16 and managed to maintain their lead to clinch the second half 33-32.
The semi-final berths will be filled by the top two teams from each group, setting the stage for an exciting showdown on June 3, where the finalists will compete for the coveted title. Kenya’s performance so far positions them as strong contenders to potentially lift the trophy this year.
