Kenya has devoured Uganda 18-16 in the women’s finals of the 2022 FIBA 3×3 Under-23 National League Africa South at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
It was a big win for the girls as Kenya had lost 18-17 and 20-18 to Uganda in the finals held on Monday and Tuesday respectively.
According to the Kenyan girls’ coach Martin Kwaka, the team is optimistic and ready to emerge champions come Saturday.
“As always the team is positive that the competition was within our reach and we made changes which worked to our advantage. I am certain come Saturday, we will emerge champions” said Kwaka.
Rwanda, Botswana, and Rwanda are the other nations competing in the event which will end on the 16th while Guinea Bissau gave the tournament a wide berth after failing to travel to Kenya for the tournament.
In the men’s category, Kenyan boys are yet to bag their first stop win as they again finished third with a 20-18 win over Uganda.
On Tuesday’s third-place play-off, Kenya gunned down Botswana 21-12 while Rwanda beat Botswana 18-10 to register their second stop win on Wednesday.
The winners in both the men’s and women’s categories will grace the World U-23 Championships to be held in September in Belarus.
The FIBA 3×3 under 23 Nations League is also part of the road to the next edition of the Olympic Games, with the best African team securing a ticket to Paris 2024.
