The Kenya Golf Union has introduced revisions to the 2024 Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) calendar, featuring an extra event and modifications in the ranking points system.

A total of twenty-seven events are set for the upcoming year as the KAGC series enters its second year. The tournaments offer prize money in compliance with the rules of golf for amateurs (Amateur Status) and serve as a platform for ranking amateurs locally and for the World Amateur Golf Ranking.

Philip Ochola, Chairman of the Kenya Golf Union, highlighted the success of the 2023 season, attributing it to the support from the title sponsor, NCBA Bank, which provided prize money for all the events.

Ochola expressed pride in golfers earning from the sport and aspired for future collaborations with sponsors to enhance the prize and attractiveness of the series.

Ochola also commended the development of golf in the country, noting Michael Karanga’s breakthrough into the top 100 of the World Amateur Golf Ranking, signalling positive strides made by stakeholders in transforming golf.

The 2024 season will witness the return of the Diani Beach Masters, hosted by Diamond Leisure Lodge Golf Resort in the Coast Region from October 18th to 20th, 2024.

Tournament director David Ndung’u welcomed the event’s revival, emphasizing its role as an additional platform for top amateurs to compete for prize money and ranking points. The series is set to commence at Sigona Golf Club for the Annual Sigona Bowl Tournament from January 26th to 28th, 2024.

Key Kenya Golf Union-owned events include the Kenya Amateur Matchplay Championship scheduled for July 11th to 14th, 2024, at Sigona Golf Club, and the Kenya Amateur Strokeplay Championship set for August 1st to 4th, 2024, at Nyali Golf & Country Club.

Ndung’u also announced a tiered points system for awarding KAGC points in the upcoming year, based on the field strength each event attracts. The tournaments will be categorized into three tiers to allocate points accordingly.
