The Kenya Lionesses, the national women’s 3×3 basketball team, have received a significant boost on their journey to qualify for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.

A Sh5 million sponsorship from Odibets, a prominent sports betting company, will support their series of preparatory tournaments and their trip to a crucial tournament in France.

Odibets General Manager Dedan Mungai announced that the sponsorship will cover the team’s travel expenses, gear, and meals during their stay in France. Mungai praised the Lionesses for their excellence and their status as reigning African champions. He also highlighted Odibets’ commitment to nurturing young talent through the Odimtaani initiative, part of their corporate social responsibility.

The Lionesses, who made history by winning the African Cup against Egypt with a last-second shot from captain Natalie Akinyi, are bolstered by seasoned players Hildah Indasi and Mercy Wanyama, along with rising star Madina Okot.

Indasi expressed the team’s gratitude for the sponsorship, acknowledging the financial challenges of competing in international tournaments. She emphasized the team’s determination to qualify for the Olympics.

The event also featured Kenya Basketball Federation’s Peter Orero, who serves as the Member of Parliament for Kibra, and Angela Luchivya. The Lionesses, who reached the quarterfinals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, are now setting their sights on the pinnacle of sports competitions—the Olympic Games.
