George Ooro from Strathmore Leos and Floyd Wabwire from Menengai Oilers have been appointed as co-captains for the Kenya Morans at the Africa Games in Accra, Ghana.
Ooro, who recently competed with the Shujaa squad, secured a third-place finish in the Montevideo leg of the Challenger Sevens Series. Joining him are other Morans players who participated in Montevideo, including Ben Salem from Nondies, Dennis Abukuse from Oilers, Chrisant Ojwang from Nakuru, and Elvis Olukusi from KCB.
Kenya Sevens assistant coach Louis Kisia expressed confidence in the team, emphasizing its blend of youth and experience. He highlighted the readiness of the players for the tournament, stating that they are in good shape both in form and fitness.
Kisia emphasized the importance of the experience brought by the Shujaa quintet, particularly Ooro and Abukuse, who have played for Shujaa in previous seasons. He noted their role in mentoring younger players who are new to the international stage.
Looking ahead to the tournament, Kisia expects stiff competition, singling out teams like Zimbabwe, Uganda, and Madagascar as strong contenders. He stressed the unpredictable nature of Sevens rugby and urged the team not to underestimate any opponent.
