Kenya National Beach Games: Kenya Prisons Champion in the NOCK  Kenya Beach Volleyball Tournament

Kenya Prisons emerged as champions of the NOCK Kenya beach volleyball tournament, securing a 2-0 win (19-21, 19-21) over Mombasa Prisons. Charles Bosire from Kenya Prisons was awarded the title of Best Player. 

In the women’s category, Mombasa Queens clinched the championship after narrowly defeating Pwani University in the final.

Meanwhile, Watamu FC took home the beach soccer champions award by beating Likoni 4-0 in an exciting final at Buntuwani Waterfront Park, Malindi on Sunday. In the women’s category, MTG United won the top honors by defeating Mombasa Olympic 2-1.

Lucky Murabu led the way for Watamu FC by scoring a quick brace in the final, and Answar Shamon added a superb volley on the stroke of half-time to make it 3-0. 

Hudheifa Mchula scored the final goal to seal the win. Meanwhile, Rita Mwanaisha Jilani from MTG United scored a brace in a coastal derby final, helping her side claim victory. MTG United’s head coach, Fathime Khamis, praised her team’s performance, stating that they only conceded one goal throughout the entire tournament.

John Paul Makona from Kenya won the Elite men’s Aquathlon race, recording 37 minutes and 42 seconds, with Joseph Okal finishing as the runner-up on 38 minutes and 16 seconds. In the women’s category, Aisha Nasser defeated Vivian Hiller in a time of 45 minutes and 38 seconds to 50 minutes and 29 seconds.

Under basketball, Equity A dominated the men’s beach basketball tournament, winning 2-0 (21-13, 23-21) against Equity B. Malindi Queens took top honours in the women’s category with a 2-0 win (21-17, 21-17) over Dolphin Queens.

Sande Sinzole emerged as the winner of the men’s boxing championships, beating Joseph Mogera in a tense final on the shores of Buntuwani beach.

 Pwani Wolves were the victors in the men’s beach handball, defeating Mombasa Saints, while Coast Queens emerged as the winners in the women’s category, beating Glorious Queens.

NOC-K President Paul Tergat expressed his satisfaction with the successful tournament and thanked the people of Malindi for their support and hospitality. He also mentioned the upcoming Africa Beach games in Tunis, Tunisia, later this year. 

Kilifi’s Deputy Governor Flora Mbetsa Chibule praised the tournament for promoting domestic tourism and expressed her hopes that the selected players would be in a camp by May to prepare for the African Games.

The inaugural beach games at Malindi Beach Front this weekend featured the participation of over 900 athletes in various sports, including beach soccer, beach handball, beach volleyball, karate, tae kwon do, boxing, dhow/canoe racing, and more.
