With the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) Premier League set to resume this weekend, Kenya Police coach Patrick Mugambi expresses confidence in his team’s ability to secure a positive result against Sailors at the City Park Stadium on Saturday.
However, Mugambi acknowledges concerns about player fitness due to limited preparation time.
“We have trained for just a week. I have tried to sharpen the forwards, and I hope it will benefit us going forward,” he mentioned, highlighting the challenge of missing two key players. “Kennedy Sibweche and Victor Wekesa are suspended, but we have some players ready to step in.”
Currently standing second in the league standings with 27 points, Kenya Police Bullets trail six points behind Butali Warriors after completing 13 matches. Western Jaguars hold the third position with 25 points from 11 games, while USIU sits in fourth place with 20 points from 14 matches.
In other league matchups, Strathmore University is set to face Sikh Union at Dashmesh Stadium, and KU will take on Nakuru. Kirinyaga Knights will clash with Gorillas, UoN is scheduled to face Karate Axiom, and Parkroad Tigers are set to confront Black Tigers.
Blazers lead the pack in the men’s league with 30 points from 11 matches. In the women’s league, Strathmore University holds the top spot with 18 points, followed closely by Lakers and USIU Africa with 17 points each from eight and 10 matches, respectively.
The women’s league features a university derby between Strathmore and Kenyatta University, while Black Tigress is set to face Pirates in an exciting weekend of hockey action.
