Kenya Police secured their National Boxing League title for the sixth consecutive year, emerging victorious in the final leg held at the Kosawo Social Hall in Kisumu on Saturday.
Police retained the title with a total of 32 points, comfortably ahead of Nairobi County, who tied with hosts Kisumu at seven points each.
Kibera secured the fourth position in Kisumu with five points, followed by Githurai 44 with four points, and Mbaraki with three points. Vihiga garnered two points, while Laikipia, Nakuru, Kongowea, Siaya, Kenyatta National Hospital, and Trans Nzoia finished with a point each.
However, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) faced a setback in Kisumu as the Kenya Boxing Federation annulled their results, citing “bringing the game into disrepute” in the bout involving Fred Adolwa (KDF) and Tony Owino of Kisumu.
Despite Adolwa winning 2-1, fan disagreements and insults directed at referees and judges led to KDF’s withdrawal, citing insecurity. BFK termed it sabotage and consequently deducted all their points.
In the final standings, Kenya Police retained the title with a total of 152 points, followed by KDF with 98 points, Nairobi County with 37 points, Kenya Prisons with 27 points, Kibra with 15 points, Kisumu with 12 points, and Nakuru with 10 points.
On the lower end of the table, Vihiga secured nine points, while Siaya, Githurai 44, and Laikipia tied with eight points, finishing in the ninth positions.”
