Kenya Prisons, the reigning champions of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) men’s league, secured a spot in the semi-finals of the Africa Clubs Championships after defeating Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) 3-1 in their quarterfinal clash held on Sunday evening in Cairo.
Despite losing the first set 25-9, the warders rallied back to claim the second set 25-22. They then seized control of the match, clinching the third set 28-26 and dominating the fourth set with a 25-16 win, thus securing their berth in the last four.
Kenya Prisons displayed impressive form, building on their previous victory against Fath Union Sports (FUS) of Morocco in the round of 16 with a straight sets win.
Although their journey in the tournament had its challenges, including an opening loss to Port Autonome de Douala of Cameroon, they bounced back strongly with victories over Rwanda’s Gisagara and Cote d’Ivoire’s Volleyball Club Espoir.
Meanwhile, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) had a strong start to their campaign, remaining unbeaten in the group stage with wins against Police of Rwanda, Zambia’s Green Bufalloes, and Ivory Coast’s Volleyball Club Garde Republicaine.
In a ninth-place playoff match, Kenya’s other representative, Equity Bank, emerged victorious over the University of Zimbabwe with a 3-1 scoreline (25-18, 25-16, 23-25, 25-16).
