As the 2023 WRC Safari Rally kicks off this week in Naivasha, Kenya, Karan Patel, the reigning Kenya National Rally Champion, is fully prepared to challenge the world’s top rally drivers.
Having faced an early retirement last year due to technical errors, Karan Patel has dedicated himself to meticulous preparations for this year’s event, where he will compete in the WRC’s Rally 2 classification.
Despite the tough competition in his category, Patel remains optimistic and sees this as an opportunity to push his limits and elevate his driving skills.
“We approach the Safari Rally just like any other rally, and our preparations have been exceptional. We are ready for the event, but it’s going to be a challenging few days because we will be up against top drivers in our category. This will undoubtedly push the car harder than usual, which is a positive thing. After enjoying consistent victories in our region, it’s exciting to discover what it takes to push harder and reach the next level of driving,” Patel expressed confidently.
Among the formidable competitors Patel will face are high-flying driver Oliver Solberg and five-time Safari Rally champion Carl Tundo.
Regardless of acknowledging their experience and skill, Patel aims to establish his authority on the international stage after his success in regional championships.
“While winning the category would be fantastic, the competition is fierce, with excellent drivers like Martin Prokop, Kajetanowicz, Oliver Solberg, and others driving R5 vehicles. They possess more experience and skills than I do, so it would be satisfying to be up there with them, if not surpassing them. I don’t feel pressured to prove anything to anyone; I’ll focus on driving my race and giving my best, according to my capabilities. Once the results are in, we’ll evaluate and determine how to further improve,” Patel added.
The WRC Safari Rally is set to commence in Naivasha on Thursday, where drivers will confront the ultimate challenge of conquering the world’s toughest rally.
As men and machines come together in this epic quest, the excitement is palpable, and Patel is determined to make his mark on the international stage, leaving a lasting impression among the rallying greats.
