The upcoming 2023 Billie Jean King Cup Africa Group Three Tennis Championship, set to take place from the 12th to the 17th of this month at Nairobi Club, has announced its pool assignments.
Kenya has been drawn into Pool A, which features a total of twelve participating countries from the continent.
The Kenyan team will commence their campaign against top-seeded Morocco tomorrow, followed by a match against their neighbours, Uganda, on Tuesday. Representing the host country will be a formidable team consisting of Wimbledon doubles Junior Champion Angella Okutoyi, Roselida Asumwa, Cynthia Cheruto, and Alicia Owegi.
Joining Kenya in Pool A are teams from Botswana, Nigeria, and Namibia. On the other hand, Pool B consists of Tunisia, Ghana, Burundi, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, and Seychelles.
The Billie Jean King Cup, commencing on Monday and concluding on Saturday, will feature a round-robin format, with teams vying for promotion to the next tier of the women’s competition.
The winning team will secure promotion to the second-rank division, while the team finishing at the bottom of the standings will face relegation.
