The Kenyan men’s hockey 5s team kicked off their World Cup campaign in Oman with a convincing 6-1 victory against New Zealand, led by Moses Ademba’s standout performance, scoring a brace.
The early morning match saw goals from Danstone Wabwire, Ivan Ludiali, and Sheldon Kimutai before New Zealand’s Jakob Bell-Kake managed a consolation goal. Ademba and Richard Wanganga sealed Kenya’s dominance with two more goals, securing an impressive start to the tournament.
However, the team faced a reversal of fortunes in their next match, losing 7-2 to Trinidad and Tobago at the same venue. Ludiali’s early equalizer was not enough for Kenya to regain control, as Trinidad and Tobago dominated, with Marcano Teague securing a hattrick.
Despite Moses Loice’s corner goal providing a brief reprieve, Trinidad and Tobago emerged victorious, leaving Kenya second in Pool C. The team looks to rebound in their final group match against Australia on Monday afternoon.
