Kenya to Host World Freestyle Football Championships Final
Kenya is set to host the World Freestyle Football Championships final this Saturday at the Bomas of Kenya. The organizers have announced that the event will feature 32 men and 16 women competing in various categories.
The final marks the culmination of the Freestyle Football Pulse Series, a series of highly competitive regional tournaments covering all corners of the globe.
This ensures that every freestyler has the opportunity to compete for a spot in the World Final. Hezlen Selesi, one of the participating freestylers, emphasized the discipline, endurance, hard work, and dedication required for this individual sport.
He expressed the sentiment that the sport should be introduced in schools. The 2022 World Final, held in Pula, Croatia, saw Erlend Fagerli of Norway and Caitlyn Schrepfer of the USA crowned as the men’s and women’s champions.
Tristan Gac of France and Aguska Mnich of Poland were honoured with the first-ever People’s Choice Award. Despite no Kenyan participants in this Saturday’s finals, Annette Wachira hopes to see Kenyans actively involved in next year’s finals.
She sees the event as an excellent opportunity to showcase Kenya’s tourism, given that participants from around the world will be visiting the country.
Freestyle football involves the art of juggling a football using any part of the body, excluding the elbows to the hands. It is a unique blend of football tricks, dance, acrobatics, and music, providing entertainment to onlookers and a platform for competition among participants.
