The Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) and LG Electronics recognized four exceptional sports personalities for their remarkable achievements in the months of January, February, March, and April.

The awards ceremony celebrated the outstanding performances of these athletes across various disciplines.

Pamela Adhiambo, a prominent member of the hard-hitting Kenya Pipeline women’s volleyball team, was named the LG/SJAK Player of the Month for January. Her pivotal role in guiding her team to victory in the Kenya Volleyball Federation National League earned her this recognition.

Adhiambo was also named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for her outstanding contribution to the team’s success. February’s award went to Beatrice Chebet, who emerged victorious as the World Cross-Country 10km champion.

In a gripping senior women’s race at the World Cross Country Championships in Bathurst, Australia, Chebet displayed incredible resilience, defeating pre-race favourite Letesenbet Gidey of Ethiopia. Chebet’s gold medal-winning performance showcased her talent and determination.

March’s accolade was bestowed upon Rosemary Wanjiru, the Tokyo Marathon champion. Wanjiru’s surprise victory at the 2023 Tokyo Marathon solidified her position among the world’s top 10 fastest women marathoners.

Her exceptional performance, which broke her from the leading pack in the final kilometres, highlighted her strength and endurance.

Kelvin Kiptum, the London Marathon champion and the second-fastest marathon runner in history, claimed the April award.

In only his second marathon, Kiptum delivered a performance of a lifetime, surpassing a star-studded field to secure the title. His time of 2:01:25, just 17 seconds shy of Eliud Kipchoge’s world record, demonstrated his extraordinary talent and determination.

The winners were presented with personalized trophies and LG 55″ NanoCell TVs as a token of recognition for their achievements. They surpassed several other exceptional nominees to earn this prestigious honor.

William Kamore, LG Electronics East Africa Senior Trainer and Content Manager commended the quartet for their outstanding performances and emphasized the importance of uplifting athletes’ morale.

The partnership between LG and SJAK aims to inspire athletes to reach their full potential and make a positive impact in their sporting careers.

SJAK Chairman James Waindi congratulated the four athletes, acknowledging their immense dedication and contribution to their respective sports. Over the past eight years, the LG-sponsored awards have played a crucial role in boosting the spirits of Kenyan athletes and enhancing their welfare with a range of LG products.

The recognition of these sports personalities highlights Kenya’s reputation for producing exceptional athletes and their ongoing efforts to elevate the country’s sporting achievements. The LG and SJAK partnership continues to inspire athletes and contribute to the growth of sports in Kenya.
