Kenyan Sensation Moraa and Chepkoech Shine at Lausanne Diamond League

The Lausanne Diamond League witnessed outstanding performances from Kenyan athletes Mary Moraa and Beatrice Chepkoech, as they emerged victorious in their respective races on Friday night.

Moraa, the Commonwealth 800m champion, faced tough competition from world silver medalist Keely Hodkinson.

However, she displayed exceptional tactical brilliance, securing a comfortable victory with a season-best time of 1:53.47. Hodkinson settled for second place, finishing in 1:58.37, while Natoya Ghoul of Jamaica claimed the third spot on the podium with a time of 1:58.90.

Reflecting on her triumph, Moraa mentioned the challenging race and the difficult weather conditions, expressing her pride in her achievements and acknowledging the support of her mentor.

In another remarkable feat, Chepkoech dominated the field in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, setting a new meeting record of 9:05.98.

She showcased her prowess as she fended off Ethiopian athlete Sembo Almayew, who finished second in 9:06.82. Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai from Uganda secured the third position with a time of 9:11.91.

The exceptional performances of Mary Moraa and Beatrice Chepkoech not only demonstrate their individual brilliance but also contribute to the rich legacy of Kenyan athletics.

Their victories at the Lausanne Diamond League further highlight the talent and dedication of Kenyan athletes on the global stage.
