Seventeen-year-old Kenyan swimmer Sarah Mose is geared up for a remarkable performance as she targets a podium finish at the seventh edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games, set to commence in Trinidad and Tobago on Friday.
Hailing from Poland, Sarah Mose was the first Kenyan athlete to arrive in Trinidad, already completing three rigorous training sessions in preparation for the games.
Accompanied by male swimmer Aker Mutinda and their coach Lydia Musei, the Kenyan team is ready to make a splash in the competition.
For Sarah, the Commonwealth Youth Games mark her debut on the international stage, and she exudes confidence as she readies herself to take on tough opponents from Australia, England, Wales, and the host country, Trinidad and Tobago.
“The weather is good, and the pool is cool as well, so I am looking to do well and probably get a medal for Kenya,” says Sarah, expressing her optimism and determination.
Thrilled to represent her country, Sarah has been working diligently in her training, focusing on enhancing her speed and refining her skills. She believes that her hard work will pay off, and she is eager to make Kenya proud with a podium-worthy performance.
Admitting to mixed emotions of excitement and nerves, Sarah acknowledges the novelty of the experience. However, she is quick to assert that everything is falling into place. Observing and making minor adjustments, Sarah is confident that her meticulous preparation will pave the way for success.
During the Commonwealth Youth Games, Sarah will showcase her talents in multiple events, including the 50m freestyle, 50m fly, 50m breaststroke, 50m backstroke, and 100m breaststroke.
