Sharon Chepchumba, renowned player of the national women’s volleyball team, recently disclosed that her recent injury ordeal marked the toughest period of her career.

Chepchumba revealed the mental toll of being sidelined, an unfamiliar experience for her. “It was not easy…the healing journey has been arduous because I hadn’t faced it before. But, it’s a relief to be back in action,” she expressed.

Dubbed ‘Chumba’ by fans, the left attacker endured three months off the court due to a knee injury requiring surgery. This hiatus caused her to miss significant national duties, including Malkia Strikers’ campaigns at the Africa Zone Five Championships and the African Games.

Despite the setback, Chepchumba credited her teammates and friends for their unwavering support during her recovery. “Getting injured at your peak is a setback. I was scared at first, but my recovery has been smooth. I didn’t give up…I reminded myself of my team’s needs,” she remarked.

Rejoining KCB Volleyball Club, Chepchumba expressed excitement for her upcoming stint at the Africa Club Volleyball Championships in Cairo, Egypt. Reflecting on her previous victory with the team in 2022, she aims to contribute to another triumph. “I believe we are capable of coming back with the trophy because that is what we are going for,” she affirmed.

Drawing from her experience in Greece’s professional league, Chepchumba aims to apply lessons learned to enhance Malkia Strikers’ performance. With the Olympics looming, she is eager to lead the team’s pursuit of glory, emphasizing the blend of youth and experience as their key strength.

“Last time we were there, we surprised many teams with our improvement. I believe we have ambitious junior players and experienced ones. We will perform well and surprise many teams,” Chepchumba asserted confidently.
