Equity Men’s tough run at the East Africa Basketball Championship continued on Saturday as they suffered a crushing 106-64 defeat to Burundi’s Remesha in a game played at the Nyayo Basketball Court.
Napoleon Abiikunze was instrumental in Remesha’s victory, leading the scoring with an impressive 22 points.
Reflecting on the game, Remesha head coach Robert Oyugi expressed satisfaction with his team’s progress in the tournament. “We had a sloppy start in the tournament, but I’m happy the team is finding its rhythm,” Oyugi said. He also acknowledged the high level of competition, adding, “The tournament is tough, but it’s a great experience for the players as they prepare to return to league action.”
Equity captain Davis Siaji admitted the team faced challenges but maintained a positive outlook. “We have a big team overall, but some of our key players couldn’t make it today. We played well, but the scoreline doesn’t reflect that,” Siaji noted. He emphasized the importance of looking ahead, saying, “We have a match tomorrow, and it’s crucial to shift our focus to the next assignment.”
On the final day of the tournament, Remesha will take on Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), while Equity will face A.B.C. of Tanzania. Dar City of Tanzania will square off against Burundi’s Hippos in the concluding fixtures of the championship.
