Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon has been officially recognized by World Athletics for her remarkable achievements in the 1500m and 5000m races.

The indefatigable athlete shattered both world records within a single week during the Diamond League circuit in Europe.

The first of these records was set in Florence on June 2, where Kipyegon blazed through the 1500m race in an astonishing 3:49.11. This incredible feat surpassed the previous record of 3:50.07, which had been held by Ethiopia’s Genzebe Dibaba since 2015.

Undeterred by her initial success, Kipyegon pushed her limits even further just a week later in Paris. In an awe-inspiring performance, the double Olympic and world champion obliterated the 5000m world record, clocking an incredible time of 14:05.20. This achievement left spectators in awe as it marked only her third-ever race over this distance.

The previous 5000m world record of 14:06.62 had been held by Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey, who also participated in the race and secured a respectable second-place finish behind Kipyegon.

In a humbling statement, Kipyegon expressed her surprise at achieving the world records. “I didn’t think about the world record, I don’t know how I made it,” she admitted. “I just wanted to improve on my PB, the world record was not my plan. I just ran after Gidey, she is an amazing lady.”

Kipyegon’s extraordinary journey did not end there, as she later went on to set another world record over the mile at the Monaco Diamond League on July 31. The details of this outstanding achievement are currently pending ratification.

Faith Kipyegon’s relentless pursuit of excellence has not only secured her a place in history but also served as an inspiration to athletes and fans worldwide.

Her exceptional talent and determination continue to elevate the sport of athletics, and her accomplishments will undoubtedly be celebrated for years to come.
