Kenya’s Hockey 5s Team Aims for Quarter-Finals Clash with Australia at FIH World Cup

The Kenya men’s hockey five-aside team is gearing up for a crucial encounter against Australia on Monday afternoon, eyeing a spot in the quarter-finals at the inaugural International Hockey Federation (FIH) World Cup in Muscat, Oman.

After a strong start with a convincing 6-1 victory over New Zealand, Kenya faced a setback with a 7-2 loss to Trinidad and Tobago. Currently occupying the second spot in Pool C with three points, Kenya shares the same points with third-placed New Zealand.

Trinidad and Tobago lead the group with four points, while Australia sits at the bottom with one point. Meshack Senge, the head coach of Strathmore University hockey, applauded the team for their remarkable performance. He emphasized the importance of staying focused and maintaining the same level of preparation for the upcoming matches.

“As we approach the next set of games, our focus should remain unwavering, and we must sustain our preparation efforts. Congratulations to the boys, and a big shoutout to the technical team,” remarked Senge.

The third round of matches is anticipated to deliver a thrilling conclusion, with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the quarter-finals. In Pool C, all four teams are still in contention to progress, and Kenya’s match is scheduled for 12 pm.
