The Kenyan men’s national netball team, known as the Netkings, clinched the bronze medal at the Africa Netball Cup by defeating hosts Botswana with a scoreline of 46-27.

The thrilling encounter took place at the University of Botswana Indoor Facility in Gaborone. The Netkings faced stiff competition from South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Botswana in the week-long continental championships.

The Netkings’ journey included an initial loss to Zimbabwe (29-37) and South Africa (30-42), but they rallied to secure a crucial victory against Botswana (42-36) in the round-robin tournament.

This win, coupled with their bronze-medal playoff success against the host nation, allowed them to claim the third position.

Meanwhile, Kenya’s women’s netball team, La Divas, finished in fifth place after overcoming Eswatini with a score of 46-27 in the fifth-place playoff at the same venue. La Divas had a challenging group stage, securing their sole victory against Eswatini with a narrow margin of 44-43.

Originally planned for Uganda, the Africa Netball Cup faced disruptions, including the withdrawal of top-seeded teams in the women’s category, such as Uganda, Malawi, and South Africa.

The tournament’s finals are scheduled for later in the day, featuring matchups between Zambia and Namibia in the women’s division and Zimbabwe against South Africa in the men’s game.
