Kenya’s Rising Stars Eye Semis Spot in CECAFA U18 Boys Championships

Kenya’s U18 national football team, the Rising Stars, is gearing up for a crucial encounter against Rwanda on Tuesday at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Kisumu City.

With aspirations of securing a spot in the semi-finals, the Rising Stars will draw confidence from their emphatic 5-0 victory over Sudan in their opening Pool ‘A’ match.

In their impressive performance against Sudan, Louice Ingavi, who plays for Montverde Academy in the US, showcased his prowess with a brace. Spain-based Adrine Kibet, Tryron Kariuki, and Elly Owande of Migori Youth also found the back of the net, contributing to the team’s convincing win.

Coach Anthony Akhulia expressed the team’s determination, stating, “We are going for a win against Rwanda and qualify for the last four. We want an early slot in the semis. As the host nation, we are under pressure to win all our matches.”

Rwanda, having secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Somalia despite playing with 10 men, anticipates a tough match against Kenya. Coach Kayiranga Baptiste is optimistic about his team’s chances and emphasizes the importance of clinical finishing in front of goal.

In Pool ‘B,’ Tanzania is set to face Zanzibar in another anticipated clash. The tournament’s intensity is set to continue on Thursday with Rwanda facing Sudan and Uganda colliding with South Sudan in Pool ‘A’ action.
