Kenya’s Shujaa suffers yet another defeat in the World Sevens series after losing 19-5 to Uruguay in their opening match at the Stade Ernest Wallon in Toulouse on Friday.
The Kenyan team struggled to find their footing in the game, as Uruguay scored three quick tries to secure their core status. Despite putting up a fight in the second half, Kenya was unable to close the gap, and the match ended 19-5 in favor of Uruguay.
Baltazar Amaya scored the opening try for Uruguay in the second minute, followed by Mateo Vinals, who extended the lead to 12-0 with Guillermo Litjenstein converting. In the second half, Battista Basso scored another try for Uruguay, with Litjenstein adding the extras for a 19-0 lead.
Although George Ooro scored a late consolation try for Shujaa, it was too little too late to turn the game around. This marks Uruguay’s fourth win in five matches against Kenya this season, having previously won in Hong Kong, Vancouver, and Singapore.
Kenya will now face New Zealand, the current log leaders, in their next game at 7:16 pm, followed by their final preliminary game against Canada on Saturday at 1:21 pm.
