Kibera Soccer Ladies have emerged as the champions of the 2022/23 FKF Division One Women’s League, confirming their promotion to the Kenya Women’s Premier League.
In a Sunday morning match held at NCC Ground in Nairobi, the Kibera side dominated Falling Water Barcelona with a resounding 4-1 victory to secure the division one title.
Team Burudani, as they are known, solidified their top position in the division one league with 53 points, eight points clear of Uweza Women FC who finished in second place with 46 points. Both teams played a total of 22 matches throughout the season.
Team Burudani started the game strongly, taking an early lead on their home turf. Nancy Atako opened the scoring for the Soccer Ladies in the 5th minute, followed by Robby finding the net in the 12th minute, making it 2-0 in their favour.
Facing tough competition from the determined Falling Water Barcelona, the Soccer Ladies conceded a penalty kick after a hard tackle, resulting in a 2-1 scoreline. However, they remained resilient and enjoyed the support of their home fans.
In the 39th minute, Cynthia Atieno, who was named the Player of the Month in the division one league for July, provided a superb assist for Nancy Apoko to score her second goal of the match, giving the Soccer Ladies hope for promotion to the FKF Women’s Premier League.
The thrilling clash continued until the 76th minute when Nancy Atako completed her hat-trick, extending the Soccer Ladies’ lead to 4-1 and securing the Division One Women’s League title. As the 14-team league season comes to a close, nine teams will face relegation.
The promotion playoff between the second-placed teams in Division One Zone A and Division One Zone B will take place at a later date. Team Burudani, representing Division One Women’s League Zone A, and the winner of Division One Women’s League Zone B will both earn spots in the FKF Women’s Premier League for the upcoming season.
