Kiptum and Kosgei to Lead Kenya’s Marathon Teams for World Championships

Kenya’s marathon teams for the upcoming World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, will be led by London Marathon champion Kelvin Kiptum and women’s world marathon record holder Brigid Kosgei.

Kiptum, who holds the second-fastest marathon time in history, will be joined by two-time New York City Marathon champion Geoffrey Kamworor and Titus Kipruto, who finished fourth at this year’s Tokyo Marathon. Timothy Rono and Michael Githae will serve as reserves.

In the women’s team, Kosgei will be accompanied by Rosemary Wanjiru, the Tokyo Marathon champion, and Sheila Chepkirui, who placed fourth at the London Marathon.

Sally Chepyego and Margaret Wangari have been named as reserves.

The full marathon team is as follows:

Men: Kelvin Kiptum, Geoffrey Kamworor, Titus Kipruto, with Timothy Rono as the reserve and Michael Githae as the backup.

Women: Brigid Kosgei, Sheila Chepkirui, Rosemary Wanjiru, with Sally Chepyego and Margaret Wangari as reserves.
