Faith Kipyegon, the world and Olympic champion, has expressed her determination to achieve even greater feats after her outstanding performance in setting a new world record in the 1500m event in Florence on June 2.
While basking in her remarkable accomplishment, Kipyegon emphasized that she is still striving for more. She stated, “There’s still more to come. I’m still working on running faster than that, faster than 3:49. I managed to run 3:49, and I’m still aiming for exceptional performances in the upcoming races this season.”
Kipyegon’s race in Florence provided an exhilarating finale to the Wanda Diamond League, showcasing her exceptional talent in a city that had last witnessed a world record when Sebastian Coe, the President of World Athletics, broke the 800m mark here in 1981.
“I had mentioned that I wanted to run a beautiful race, to run my own race, and explore the boundaries of what is possible. Today, that became a reality,” added Kipyegon.
Looking ahead, Kipyegon will shift her focus to the 5000m event in Paris next week, before returning to Kenya to intensify her training in preparation for another attempt at breaking the record during the Herculis meeting in Monaco in July.
With her latest achievement, Kipyegon now holds the first and third fastest times in history, having set her previous personal best of 3:50.37 in August last year. Her extraordinary talent and unwavering determination continue to make her a force to be reckoned with in the world of athletics.
