Sammy Kiki, head coach of the defending champions Kenya Ports Authority men’s basketball team, commended his players for concluding the first leg of the 2023-24 season with a notable victory over Eldonets Platinum.
The Dockers secured a convincing win against the Eldoret-based team on their home court at the Uasin Gishu grounds, triumphing 63-58 and accumulating a total of 20 points. This achievement propelled them to the second seed on the league standings, trailing only behind unbeaten leaders Nairobi City.
Reflecting on the challenging match against Eldonets, Coach Kiki acknowledged the difficulty of playing in the opponent’s home territory but praised his team for rising to the occasion and emerging victorious. Despite facing setbacks with two losses against title contenders City Thunder and Ulinzi Warriors in the first leg, Kiki remains confident in his team’s abilities and their prospects in the upcoming playoffs.
Expressing satisfaction with their performance in the first leg, Kiki emphasized the team’s determination to approach the second leg with even greater focus and determination. He underscored the importance of minimizing losses and aiming for a strong finish in the regular season standings before heading into the playoffs.
On the other hand, Eldonets concluded the first leg of the league in the ninth seed position, accruing 14 points from three victories and eight defeats in the competitive 12-team league.
As the league progresses, KPA and other teams are gearing up for intense competition in pursuit of the championship title. With KPA’s impressive display and Coach Kiki’s guidance, they remain poised to be formidable contenders in the upcoming playoffs, showcasing their commitment to excellence in Kenyan basketball.
