Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has put themselves on the brink of defending their National Women’s Basketball Premier League title with a dominant 70-38 victory over Zetech Sparks in Game Two of the playoff finals at Nyayo Gymnasium.
Following their earlier win of 68-38 in Game One, KPA now leads the best-of-five series 2-0. The reigning champions showcased their superiority once again displaying an impressive performance that firmly establishes their control of the finals.
With the series now heading to Mombasa next weekend, KPA will enjoy the advantage of playing on their home court for the remaining games.
Belinda Akoth was the standout player of the match, contributing a game-high 22 points to lead KPA’s commanding victory. Nigerian international Ifunaya Okoro and captain Natalie Akinyi also made significant contributions, scoring 17 and 10 points respectively for the Dockers.
KPA set the tone early in the game, dominating the first quarter with a 29-18 lead. The second quarter ended in a draw at 18-18, maintaining KPA’s advantage with a halftime score of 47-36.
Continuing their impressive display, KPA extended their lead in the third quarter, outscoring Zetech Sparks 21-2. The final quarter saw KPA maintain their defensive prowess, allowing only two points while adding two of their own. The game concluded with a resounding 70-38 victory for KPA.
Expressing his satisfaction with his team’s performance, KPA’s head coach Anthony Ojukwu expressed gratitude for the remarkable display by his players over the weekend.
Looking ahead to Game Three in Mombasa on Saturday, Ojukwu expressed confidence in his team’s ability to secure another victory and successfully defend their title.
With KPA’s dominant form, the upcoming game in Mombasa holds the potential for them to clinch the championship for the second consecutive year.
