KPA Sets Sights on a Three-Peat in Kenya’s Premier League Basketball Playoffs

As the Kenya National Basketball Men’s Premier League playoffs loom, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and their head coach Sammy Kiki are laser-focused on clinching a third consecutive title.

The opening round pits the defending champions against the Africa Nazarene University Wolfpacks. The first game is scheduled for Sunday at Nyayo Gymnasium, followed by the second and third games at Mombasa’s Makande Gymnasium.

KPA concluded the regular season in a strong second place, amassing 39 points from 22 games, with 17 wins and five losses. The Wolfpacks secured the seventh spot with 31 points, having won nine and lost 13 games. Coach Kiki emphasizes a step-by-step approach to the playoffs, treating each game as a critical step towards the final, respecting the caliber of every playoff contender.

Kiki acknowledges the need for strategic adjustments to counter the formidable Nairobi City Thunder, who lead the league without a loss. He expresses gratitude for the management’s support and is confident in the team’s playoff preparations, particularly in tweaking the offensive strategy to align with the current play format.

Despite a mixed regular season performance, Kiki remains optimistic about KPA’s playoff prospects, praising his players’ efforts that secured a second-place finish and an advantageous playoff position. He underscores that the playoffs are a distinct challenge from the regular season, one that KPA is well-prepared to meet.
