Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) is showcasing its prowess at the ongoing CAVB Club Championships in Tunisia after securing impressive victories in its respective matches.
KPA, the silver medalists in the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) men’s league, began their campaign with a thrilling 3-1 win against Cameroon’s CSV.
After a close first-set loss of 23-25, KPA displayed resilience and dominance by claiming the next three sets convincingly with scores of 25-16, 25-21, and 25-19. This triumph provided them with a positive start in a challenging pool and put them in a favorable position moving forward.
However, in their second match against JOA of Algeria, KPA experienced a setback. Despite initially securing a two-set advantage with scores of 25-23 and 31-29, they faltered and lost the match 3-2.
The Algerians staged a remarkable comeback, winning the third set 26-24 and dominating the fourth set 25-14. In the decisive fifth set, KPA couldn’t match their opponents’ intensity, resulting in a 15-10 defeat. Nevertheless, KPA managed to secure one point from the match.
Meanwhile, in the women’s division, defending champions KCB started their title defense impressively by winning their first two matches.
In their opener against Cameroon’s Nyong, KCB made a powerful statement by claiming the first set with a commanding 25-7 scoreline. They continued their dominance, securing the next two sets 25-20 and 25-16, ultimately winning the match in straight sets.
In their second match of Pool B, KCB faced National Alcohol of Ethiopia and once again displayed their superiority, triumphing in straight sets with scores of 25-20, 25-12, and 25-9. These consecutive victories have secured KCB’s place in the round of 16 with a match in the group stage still to spare.
In the women’s league, Kenya Pipeline, the reigning KVF champions, remain undefeated in the tournament. They notched a 3-1 victory against the Chief of Naval from Nigeria.
After taking a commanding 25-15 lead in the first set, Pipeline faced some resistance from the Nigerian team, resulting in a set loss with a score of 25-21.
However, Pipeline quickly regained their momentum, winning the third set dominantly with a score of 25-13. In the fourth set, they fiercely battled against a determined Nigerian side, ultimately emerging victorious with a narrow 27-25 scoreline, securing the match 3-1.
Both KPA and Kenya Pipeline are showcasing their determination and skill on the international stage, aiming for notable achievements in the CAVB Club Championships.
