Leopards’ Comeback Secures Semifinal Berth in FKF Cup Showdown
AFC Leopards staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Compel FC 3-1 in a dramatic FKF Cup quarterfinal showdown at Nairobi’s Dandora Stadium. The match began with a surprise as Philip Simiyu’s long-range effort put Compel FC ahead, catching goalkeeper Humphrey Katasi off guard.
Undeterred, the Leopards, under coach Thomas Trucha, quickly took control of the game. The dynamic duo of Jaffer Owiti and Randi Bakari wreaked havoc on the right wing, creating numerous scoring opportunities. Their efforts bore fruit when Kaycie Odhiambo headed in a corner kick, leveling the score.
As Compel FC adopted a defensive stance, the Leopards intensified their attack. Rwandese forward Arthur Gitego broke the deadlock with a crucial header just before halftime. The second half saw Gitego double his tally, cementing the Leopards’ dominance with a goal in the 61st minute.
The victory sets up a tantalizing semi-final clash with Kenya Police, as AFC Leopards chase their eleventh domestic cup triumph.
