Captain Grace Adhiambo of the national women’s rugby 7s team expressed her excitement about the prospect of qualifying for the World Rugby 7s Series, describing it as a dream come true in her longstanding career.
Adhiambo emphasized the team’s readiness for the challenging journey ahead, stressing the importance of collective effort to achieve their goals.
Acknowledging the support they have received, Adhiambo thanked everyone who has been part of the Kenya Lionesses’ journey. As a proud captain, she expressed her determination to lead from the frontline and guide the team to success.
Reflecting on her experience as the team captain in the past year, Adhiambo expressed pride in the team’s progress. Looking ahead to the upcoming Challenger Series in Dubai, where the Lionesses have the opportunity to qualify for the World Rugby 7s Series, she emphasized the team’s hopefulness and determination. Adhiambo conveyed the team’s goal to top the pool at the Challenger Series, showcasing respect for every opponent and a commitment to making everyone proud.
Coach Dennis “Ironman” Mwanja echoed Adhiambo’s sentiments, stating that the girls are eager to make history and establish their reputation. Mwanja highlighted the team’s aspirations to rise to the top spot in the World Rugby 7s Series, emphasizing that they no longer want to live in the shadows of Shujaa.
The team has undergone intensive preparation, including a beneficial camp at St Andrew’s Turi. Mwanja expressed confidence in the Lionesses’ skill development and overall readiness for the Challenger Series in Dubai.
The Lionesses will kick off their campaign in Pool B, facing China on Friday morning, followed by a match against Czech Republic in the evening. Their final fixture in the pool stage will be against Mexico on Saturday morning.
Both the Lionesses and their male counterparts, Shujaa, are set to depart for Dubai on Monday.
