Liverpool secured a crucial 1-0 win over Brentford in the English Premier League on Saturday, thanks to Mohamed Salah’s 100th goal at Anfield.
The Egyptian forward scored his 30th goal of the season in the 13th minute of the game, becoming the first Liverpool player to score in nine consecutive home matches in all competitions.
Although Salah’s goal was not his best, it moved him to fifth place on the club’s all-time goal-scoring list with 186 goals, level with Steven Gerrard.
Fabinho, who played in his more traditional holding role, set up the winner with a well-placed chip over a crowded penalty area that found Virgil van Dijk.
The Dutch defender headed the ball to the far post where Salah was waiting to bundle it over the line.
The victory was Liverpool’s sixth consecutive win and moved them to within a point of fourth-placed Manchester United in the race for Champions League qualification.
Liverpool’s fans, who jeered the national anthem “God Save the King” due to perceived opposition towards the establishment on the day of Charles III’s coronation, were pleased with the result. The win keeps Liverpool’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League alive.
