Madina Okot, a standout player for Kenya’s national basketball team, has officially joined the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the United States, the team has confirmed.
Currently preparing with the Kenyan squad in Miramas, France, for the upcoming 3×3 women’s basketball Olympic qualifiers in Japan, Okot is set to embark on her long-awaited journey to the U.S. This move comes two years after her significant contribution to the national league champions KPA.
Expressing her enthusiasm, Okot stated, “I’m thrilled to join the Mississippi State community, known for its passionate fans and dedicated staff. I’m confident that under Coach Purcell’s guidance, I’ll be able to reach new professional heights and fulfill my ambitions.”
Okot is eager to start collaborating with her new teammates and coaching staff. The Mississippi State Bulldogs, representing Mississippi State University, compete in the Southeastern Conference, part of the NCAA Division I women’s basketball.
Aiming to emulate the success of national icon Felmas Koranga, Okot has been instrumental in her previous team, Zetech University Sparks, leading them to their first-ever final in the Kenya Basketball Federation Women’s Premier League last season.
Her achievements extend to the international stage, where she played a pivotal role in Kenya’s victory at the Africa Cup 3×3 championship in Egypt and the team’s silver medal win at the Africa Beach Games in Hammamet, Tunisia.
These accomplishments have set the stage for Okot’s promising career as she transitions to the prestigious U.S. collegiate basketball scene.
