Despite facing the absence of star player Sharon Chepchumba due to an ankle sprain sustained in a training match against Rwanda, the Kenyan team demonstrated their determination from the outset.
They displayed their mastery with set scores of 25-16, 25-20, and 25-17. Coach Luizomar de Moura expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, acknowledging that there is still room for improvement. He praised the squad’s resilience and adaptability, particularly in overcoming the challenges posed by Rwanda’s strong services during the second set.
Loice Simiyu of Kenya Pipeline stepped up admirably in Chepchumba’s absence, making a significant contribution to the team’s victory. Regardless of a brief setback in the second set, Malkia Strikers rallied to secure the set and ultimately the match.
Team captain Mercy Moim commended the collective effort, highlighting the positive integration of young players like Simiyu and the return of key players like Atuka.
