Manchester City took a step closer to securing their third consecutive Premier League title with a convincing win against relegation-threatened Everton at Goodison Park.
Pep Guardiola’s side now needs just two more victories from their remaining matches against Chelsea, Brighton, and Brentford to secure the coveted title.
Although Everton had their chances, they paid a heavy price for Mason Holgate’s missed opportunity at the far post. Shortly after, City displayed their clinical prowess by swiftly scoring two goals in two minutes.
Ilkay Gundogan, who was instrumental throughout the game, contributed to all three of City’s goals, including a superb flicked finish and providing the assist for Erling Haaland’s header. Gundogan sealed the victory with a magnificent free-kick from the edge of the area in the second half.
The 3-0 defeat leaves Everton in a precarious position, anxiously looking over their shoulders as they hover just one point above the relegation zone with two games remaining.
In another match, Brentford continued their impressive season in the Premier League with a comfortable win over a lackluster West Ham United.
Despite missing their leading scorer Ivan Toney due to injury, the Bees took the lead through Bryan Mbeumo’s well-placed strike. They doubled their advantage just before half-time when Yoane Wissa headed home from a flicked-on long throw by Ben Mee.
Brentford dominated the game and thoroughly deserved the victory. West Ham, making several changes with their focus on the Europa Conference League, could not find a breakthrough.
Although the Hammers remain not yet mathematically safe from relegation, their six-point cushion above the bottom three allowed manager David Moyes to prioritize their upcoming European fixture.
The win sees Brentford climb above Fulham into ninth place, while West Ham remains in 15th, comfortably clear of the relegation zone.
