Man United Defender Shaw Signs New Four-Year Deal

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until June 2027.

This means that he will have spent over a decade at Old Trafford since joining from Southampton in 2014.

Shaw has been having an exceptional season under manager Erik Ten Hag, with 36 appearances in all competitions, one goal, and six assists to his name.

“I’m thrilled to be extending my stay at this amazing club where I signed nine years ago,” said Shaw. “I have grown so much since I came to Manchester, both as a player and as a person. I understand what it takes to succeed at this club, and I’m excited about the journey we are embarking on under the manager and his coaching staff. While we have already achieved some success this season, we’re aiming for much more. There is a great opportunity to build something special here, and I’m committed to contributing everything I can to make that happen.”

Shaw has faced criticism from former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, who said he had to coach him through a game against Everton and that he had to mature.

However, under Mourinho’s successors Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ten Hag, Shaw has regained his place as a regular fixture and has played both at left-back and centre-back this season.

“Luke is a crucial player in the squad and has become one of the best defenders in the world,” said the club’s football director John Murtough. “He has been with us for almost ten years, and he knows what it takes to succeed, including the hard work, commitment, and high standards that are required. He has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills in addition to his outstanding abilities on the pitch, and we’re excited to see him in a Manchester United shirt for many years to come.”

Shaw has represented England 29 times and scored three goals, including the opening goal in the Euro 2020 final against Italy.
